This is the first fic I've recommended, and while I have read some absolutely exquisite stories in my time this one is the ONLY one that has hit me so thoroughly.  It brings tightness to my chest, tears to my eyes and passion to my internal voice.  This story is beautiful.  I cannot say enough how much I love it.   The author has an amazing grasp on their characters.  They're vibrant and realistic and I truly empathize with them.  Incredibly well written.  If I had to aspire to be like an author, this would indeed be it.
